The Ritenour Board of Education is made up of seven school district residents who are elected by the public in a general election. Two of the seven members are elected each year to serve three-year terms. In 1993 and each three years thereafter, an additional director shall be elected. All members are volunteers and accept no monetary compensation for serving on the board.

Following the annual election in April, members of the board elect a president and vice president. The secretary and treasurer are appointed by the board as nonvoting members.

The superintendent of schools is not a member of the board. He or she is the executive administrator of the district and is employed by the board.
