The Ritenour School District provides free bus transportation for students who live a minimum of one mile from school or for any elementary student that must cross a road designated by the Board of Education as a hazardous route. Bus route information is provided at the beginning of the year upon enrollment. Parents are not permitted to ride the school bus with their child or to enter a bus.
When riding the bus, students are expected to:
The School has responsibility for and jurisdiction over students while they are on the bus. The privilege of riding the bus may be temporarily or permanently revoked due to unacceptable behavior on the bus.
- Follow the driver’s instructions.
- Stay in assigned seats except when entering or exiting the bus.
- Refrain from throwing objects in or out of the bus.
- Refrain from eating or drinking on the bus.
- Follow all other rules
Kindergarten & First Grade Buses
A parent, guardian or babysitter must meet kindergartners and first-graders at their bus stop. Older siblings may also meet or walk with kindergartners and first-graders. If no one is available, bus drivers are instructed to return the child to school.
High School and Middle School students are permitted to ride bicycles to school. Elementary school students in fourth and fifth grade with written parental permission and principal approval are permitted to ride bicycles to school. Parents should review safety rules with their student and be sure they know the route. Students are expected to walk their bikes on school property, keep their bikes in the bike rack and use a safety lock to protect bikes during the school day. Schools are not responsible for lost, damaged or stolen property. For safety, only one rider per bike please. St. Louis County legislation requires that children who ride their bikes to school MUST wear safety helmets.
Skateboards, in-line skates and scooters are not permitted at school at any time.
Parking (Ritenour High School)
Student parking is by permit only and is available on campus and at the outer parking lot across from St. John City Hall. Applications for permit parking are available in the grade level office. The issuance of parking permits is based on grade point average, attendance rate, citizenship and student test scores. Juniors and seniors scoring at advanced and proficient levels on the Missouri Assessment Program will be given parking preference. To apply for a parking permit, students must submit a completed application, proof of current insurance, a photocopy of a current valid driver’s license and the registration fee.
Parking permits are not transferable and must be displayed in the vehicle at all times. Parking permits can be revoked due to poor attendance, citizenship and irresponsible behavior.
All parking spaces are considered the property of the school, and any vehicle parked on campus may be searched. Cars are to be kept locked and the owners are responsible for the care and its contents. Illegally parked cars will be towed at the owner’s expense.
Many of the streets surrounding the school have posted “no parking” or “parking by local permit only” signs. The respective municipalities enforce these restrictions.
Visitor parking is available on campus in designated parking spots. Visitor parking is only accessible when students are not arriving and departing. Students brought to school by their parents or friends should arrive and depart at the Stella/Tudor intersection.
