For the 15th consecutive year, Ritenour Middle School hosted its bookmark design contest. Students submitted more than 100 original designs into this year's competition. Fifteen winners were chosen. The contest was open to all students at the school.
"Typically students don't check out as many books this time of year," explained Ritenour Middle librarian Aren Ginsberg. "This contest engages students and is a way to keep them enthusiastic about reading. The students really get excited about this contest."
This year's judging committee was comprised of 39 Ritenour Middle teachers and staff members. Students were able to submit multiple entries and collaborate on design ideas.
Fifteen winners were selected: Kirstin Allen, Bobby Baker, Katie Baker, Ioana Baiatu, Rashad Binion, Taylor Clark, Jomar Davis, Joyce Ha, Allie Jovanovic, Antion McBee, Eloy Mendoza, Sandra Perez, Caylnne Riegel, Domonique Taylor and Leah Yocum.
Winning entries were printed and distributed throughout the school. However, in order to get a copy of the winning bookmarks, students must visit the school library and check out a book.
Contest winners received a certificate and were invited to a pizza party on Tuesday, March 13. All bookmark contest entries are on display in the Ritenour Middle library.
