Media Guidelines for Working in the Ritenour School District

The Ritenour School District recognizes the important role the media plays in reporting news and information about its educational programs, services, students and employees. Representatives from the Community Services Office assist the media by providing information about the Ritenour School District. As we work with you, we make every effort to work within your deadlines.

Interviews

All requests for interviews with district employees, students or board members should be made to the Community Services Office, (314) 493-6080. We will try and provide a representative who can best address the topic of the interview.

Media interviews or photographs with students require district consent. When requests for student interviews are granted, the interview is conducted at a district-designated site to minimize the loss of instructional time and disruption to the learning environment.

While Visiting the District

Media who want to film, photograph or interview Ritenour employees, students or board members are asked to make a request through the Community Services Office. When filming (live or taped) taking a still photograph or conducting interviews while in the school district, a Community Services representative will accompany media to minimize disruption at the school and to assist with any additional requests.

As a safety and security precaution, the media – like all visitors to our buildings – are asked to sign-in and obtain a visitor’s pass. Passes are available in the school’s main office or the Administrative Center reception desk.

Board of Education Meetings

We welcome media to observe the business and educational meetings of the Ritenour Board of Education. Media may film and/or record these meetings. We will gladly assist you with placement of cameras and microphones as needed.

A table for reporters is provided near the front of the boardroom and an area is designated for cameras in the back of the room. To avoid disruption of the meeting, reporters and photographers are not allowed to approach board members, guest speakers or members of the audience inside the board room during the meeting. Interviews must be conducted outside the boardroom in the hall or in a pre-arranged conference room. Interview conference rooms can be arranged through the Community Services Office.

Copies of the board agenda, informational brochures and other materials are available for media at each board meeting or by contacting the Community Services Office.
