    Yes. Another benefit of the program is that learning can continue beyond the school day with the Chromebook. Students are expected to bring the device home daily throughout the school year.

  • Are students required to have them at school each day?

    Yes. We expect these devices to be at school each day since they are fundamental learning tools needed for instructional experiences at Ritenour High School. Students will need to charge their device overnight so that it is fully charged at the beginning of the day.

  • How long does the battery last?

    The normal life of the battery of the Acer Chromebook is at least 9-10 hours of use. If a student brings a fully charged computer to school, it should last the entire day.

  • What if I cannot attend the required parent-student orientation anytime during the distribution week

    Additional orientations will be offered for students who cannot attend on any day during the week of July 25. An additional parent student orientation has been set for 2 to 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 11. Other dates and times will be announced after the initial rollout week.

  • How much does it cost to have a Ritenour Chromebook?

    Every Ritenour High School student will be issued a Chromebook annually at no cost. An optional insurance plan is available, and students are encouraged to participate in this plan (see next Q&A).

  • What does the insurance plan cost and what does it cover?

    An optional insurance plan is available to RHS families through a company called One2One Risk Solutions. The annual cost of the optional insurance is $20 per student and is due when the Chromebook is issued. Parents may also sign up for the insurance online prior to the distribution of the Chromebooks.  The premium and deductible schedule is as follows:

    Lost or Stolen Claim: $50

    The Ritenour School District will require that a police report be submitted by the family  in cases of theft. School Resource Officers will work with Ritenour High School administrators to investigate thefts. Fraudulent reporting of theft will be turned over to the police for prosecution.

    *Parents/students will be charged for the full replacement cost of a device that has been damaged due to intentional misuse or loss.

  • What do I do if I forgot my password?

    Go to the Student Help Desk in the cafeteria foyer and you will be given instructions on how to reset your password. The district Technology Department will be handling all password issues. Never share your password with anyone!

  • Who should we see, call or email if there is a problem?

    Contact the Student Help Desk in the cafeteria foyer and explain your problem with the Chromebook. The Student Help Desk will be available to help you before school, during lunch times and after school until 4 p.m. on school days. If you have a problem with your Chromebook at home, students can bring it to the Student Help Desk on the next school day.

  • How will the Student Help Desk fix my computer if they don�t know my password?

    The Student Help Desk representatives will have special Student Help Desk passwords that they will use to diagnose the problem with your Chromebook.

  • Can my student use their device at home if we don�t have access to the internet?

    Yes. The Chromebook is heavily dependent on an internet connection, but there are word processing, spreadsheet and presentation options that will work in offline situations, as well. A student can download information onto his/her Chromebook while at school and work on an assignment on the device at home, and then when the student returns to campus, the information will sync to Wi-Fi.

    Another alternative is to visit local establishments that have free Wi-Fi, such as the local library.

  • Can the Chromebook be used anywhere?

    Yes. Chromebooks can be used anywhere, as long as there is a Wi-Fi signal to access the web.

  • Is there antivirus software built into it?

    No. It is not necessary to have antivirus software on Chromebooks because there are no running programs for viruses to infect.

  • What do I do if I lose my Chromebook or if it is stolen?

    …when I am off campus after school hours?
    Report this to your local police department and they will contact a Ritenour Technology Department representative, who will remotely shut off the device to make it unusable.

    …when I am at school?
    After looking in the last place you saw your Chromebook, notify a School Resource Officer (SRO) or school administrator and they will notify the Technology Department to remotely turn off the device.

  • Does the district have the ability to track a Chromebook that may be lost or stolen?

    Yes. Steps have been taken to allow the district to track devices in these scenarios. We are also coordinating with law enforcement to prevent the potential for resale. Once a student reports their device has been lost or stolen, the Ritenour technology department will be able to shut down the device remotely so it cannot be used by an unauthorized person.

  • Will students be able to access any internet website/other material they want on their Chromebooks?

    No. The Chromebooks will have the same filtering safeguards as other computers and devices have on campus. This means that students cannot access inappropriate websites or material. The same filtering system will be effective on the Chromebooks when they are off campus, too. Students will learn about responsible digital citizenship throughout their career in Ritenour.

  • Will students be able to download whatever apps (applications) they want onto their Chromebooks?

    No. Students will only be able to download apps from the Ritenour Google Play Store, which will be accessible on the Chromebook desktop.

    Yes, this device has the ability to take photos, video and record sound. Students are expected to use good digital citizenship and should remember that all content is subject to inspection.

    No. Teachers will continue to use a variety of resources to support their instruction. The technology-enhanced classroom will support innovative practices and new resources for students to showcase their learning. Textbooks will still play a role, but may vary among classes and/or teachers.

  • Should students always use their school email account on the Chromebook?

    Students will only be able to log into their Chromebook using their school account and use their school email account. Students will not be able to log into a personal email account either at school or at home using their Chromebook. For personal email, students will need to use their own computer or another device.
