Changes with Online Learning for RMS

  • April 5, 2020

    Dear Ritenour Middle Families,

You are receiving this information as an update to our online learning instruction.  Since our time out has been extended, we have made some adjustments to the way teachers and students will be assigning and doing work.  We are trying to streamline some of our practices to make it easier on our students and parents during these times. Please read the changes below, and feel free to email any of your child’s teachers, counselors or administrators if you have questions.

You may continue to find instructions and work in our online learning folders.  You may access these folder by going to our district’s website page to the Home Learning page or by clicking on the following link:

Edgenuity Classes for Core - The biggest change with our online learning instruction is that all core classes (ELA, Math, Science and Social Studies) will be using the online learning platform called Edgenuity.  All core teachers have started enrolling students in Edgenuity and should be completed by this week. Starting tomorrow (April 6th) your child should login to Edgenuity and familiarize himself/herself with the program by following the steps below:

    • Go to or click this link:
    • Click on Student Login Tab
    • Type in student’s Username and Password, which should both be the same as their Ritenour email
    • If this doesn’t work, have student Click on Forget Your Password
    • Check Ritenour Email for New Password
    • Go Back to Login with New Password and Login
    • Once in, the classes they are enrolled in should appear (ELA, Math, Science and Social Studies).
    • The students will start each class and there will be a training video for them when they start.  Everything from that point should be fairly easy for the students to navigate.

Note: If a student doesn’t see one or more of his/her classes when he/she signs in, please contact that particular teacher to let him/her know.  Also, the Edgenuity content is mobile-friendly so a smartphone can be used if the student does not have access to a computer, Chromebook or tablet. Here are some training videos for the students to watch for more instruction how to use Edgenuity:

Continued Use of Google Folders for Other Classes - The core classes are the only ones who will be using Edgenuity.  For all encore classes, parallel classes, and gifted classes, your child should continue to go to the Google Folders to get their work and contact those teachers if they have questions:

Teacher Office Hours - All teachers (Core, Encore and SSD) will have office hours for students and parents to touch base with them everyday.  The office hours for middle school are from 8-9 a.m. AND from Noon-1 p.m.  All office hours will be managed through Google Meets/Hangouts.

Office hours are for students/parents to consistently have a time to touch base with teachers, but they are not the only times when teachers can be contacted.  Teachers will have additional times and opportunities for students to connect, but the office hours will be consistent.  Look for teachers to continue instruction with groups of students throughout the school day.  Please have your child check the Google Folders every week for information about other opportunities to connect.  They will be updated on a weekly basis with new information.

Continued Use of ICU - It is very important for students to keep up with their work.  As a result, there may be continuous notifications to you from various teachers through our ICU program.  We want to ensure that our students are keeping up with their online learning. If you receive an ICU notification from a teacher, please feel free to contact that teacher via email or through the Google Office Hours link that was explained above.  Please know, however, that any information that is shared through the Office Hours Link, is information that is shared with others.  For private conversations with teachers, please use the email system to ensure confidentiality is not broken.

Thank you for working with us as we continue to work with your child to ensure that there is continuous instruction and support.  As always, please feel free to let us know how we can help you.  We look forward to seeing and connecting with our students starting tomorrow during our middle school office hours!
