Inclement Weather Days and Phase 3 to Start the New Year
November 23, 2020
Dear Ritenour Families,
I wanted to share with you important information regarding our schedule following our winter break and virtual days for short-term school closures. The message below contains very important information, please read it carefully.
- Grades K-8 Sign up for 2nd Semester Hybrid or Virtual Learning Dec. 1-6
Families in grades K-8, please be sure to check your email on Tuesday, Dec. 1. On that date, our district will share with you the details of how to sign up for virtual or in-person learning for the second semester in grades K-8. The window to sign up your student(s) for either full virtual learning or hybrid in-person learning for second semester is open from Tuesday, Dec. 1 through Sunday, Dec. 6. More details will be provided in the Dec. 1 message.
(Ritenour High School students had their window earlier this month to sign up for second semester.)
- Short-Term Phase 3 (Full virtual learning) for first two weeks of January 2021
In January, Ritenour will return from winter break with all students in Phase 3 (full virtual learning) from Jan. 4 through Jan. 14, 2021, which are the last two weeks of the first semester. Students will continue with their current daily learning schedule through Jan. 14. Potential exposures outside of our school community during winter break could put others at risk for illness. That is why we are doing our part by implementing virtual instruction for all Ritenour students following the holidays. We wanted to make you aware of this as soon as possible so that your family can make plans. Our goal is to bring all of our students in grades K-12 back for Phase 2 hybrid in-person learning to kick off second semester on Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2021. Families who have chosen virtual learning will continue in that format as well.
- Inclement Weather Day Changes
Beginning this year, Ritenour will not be required to make up days when school buildings are closed due to unexpected short-term closures such as inclement weather, illness or utility outages. Instead, the district will implement an Alternative Methods of Instruction (AMI) Plan on these days.
When there is a short-term closure such as inclement weather, families will receive communication from our district letting you know that all students will learn virtually. Students will connect virtually with their teachers for live, real-time learning during school closures. Please note: We will do our best to give families and staff 24 hours advance notice of a school closure due to inclement weather.
Students should take home devices and other school supplies as needed if there is a potential for school closure due to inclement weather. Elementary students will follow their normal Friday virtual schedule. Middle and high school students will follow their normal schedule for the day. Please see the schedules below:
Alternative Methods of Instruction (AMI) Closure Schedule:
- Elementary Schools: 9 - 11 a.m. & 1 - 3 p.m.
- Middle Schools: 7:35 a.m. - 2:25 p.m.
- Ritenour High School: 8:05 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Since we are able to pivot to the AMI plan to make up canceled in-person days, the last day of school for the 2020-2021 school year will be Friday, May 21. If you have any questions, please reach out to your student’s teacher or school principal.
We recognize that the pandemic has created unprecedented and long-term uncertainty for all of us, but know we are committed to our staff, students and families in providing the high-quality instruction and learning experiences that our community expects.
As we move forward together, I want to thank you for your continued support, patience and grace.
Dr. Chris Kilbride
