Pepper Box Juniors Earn Accolades for Reporting and Writing
Three Pepper Box juniors received awards in May 2023 for their outstanding reporting and writing.
Caden Gaither won first place in the Youth Journalism International (YJI) contest for his story about the Russian national team being banned from international competition. A YJI judge shared that Gaither’s reporting and writing was impressive, citing kudos on the lead of the story, as well as including a strong balance of sources.
Mariam Neeb and Kya Merriman both had their stories chosen as Best of School Newspapers Online. Over 13,000 stories were submitted this school year to be considered for this award, and only 1,600 have been selected so far.
