Ritenour Earns 17th Consecutive National Budget Award

RSD Business Department with 2019 Meritorious Budget Award For the 17th consecutive year, Ritenour School District has earned the prestigious Meritorious Budget Award for excellence in the preparation of its 2018-2019 annual budget.

While every school district has an annual budget to manage expenditures and revenue, the Meritorious Budget Award is only given to school districts that meet or exceed the award program criteria, after a rigorous review by professional auditors. The award is presented  by the Association of School Business Officials (ASBO) International.

ASBO’s Meritorious Budget Award recognizes excellence in school budget presentation and enhances school business officials' skills in developing, analyzing and presenting a school system budget. The Meritorious Budget Award process also helps districts align their mission of serving students, strategic plans and operations as part of the budget.

Comments about Ritenour’s budget from ASBO’s review team included, “The budget is an excellent document, which includes a wealth of information in graphic and narrative form. The document is user-friendly for the average taxpayer with lots of data presented in different forms to meet the needs of varied users.”

Additonally, the review team said, “The District is commended for its Critical Success Factors which emphasize acceptance of diversity, ethics and parent/community engagement.”

Dwight Lindhorst, Ritenour’s chief financial officer, said that he is proud to work with a team of administrators and staff who always put students first during the budget process.

“Earning this award for 17 years shows that Ritenour consistently meets the highest levels of best practices when putting together a budget that ties together financial, historical and overall operational information with our district’s mission and goals for students,” said Lindhorst. “We are committed to being good stewards of our taxpayers’ money as well as the funds we receive from grants and other contributions that contribute to the success of our students now and upon their graduation.”

To earn the award in consecutive years, applicants must continue to improve their budget and implement ASBO’s suggestions for improvement. No other organization or award program is specifically designed to enhance school budgeting and honor a school system for a job well done.

Ritenour has received the award for its annual budgets since the 2002-2003 school year.
