Ritenour Receives Partnership Award from St. Louis Community College
The Ritenour School District was chosen by the St. Louis Community College – Florissant Valley (STLCC) MLK Celebration Committee to receive the Dr. Rance Thomas Excellence in Community Partnership Award for 2019.
Ritenour Superintendent Dr. Chris Kilbride accepted the award on behalf of the district during a special program on Tuesday, Jan. 22 in the Fischer Theater on the Florissant Valley campus. He was joined by members of the Ritenour Board of Education and the district leadership team.
In the selection process for the annual award, the MLK Celebration Committee determines a person or organization that best reflects service that improves the entire community.
“The Ritenour School District was chosen because of its commitment to its entire community, its special programs focused on serving often underrepresented individuals, and its work in creating a strong partnership with our campus and our college,” said Dr. Elizabeth Perkins, Campus President and Chief Academic Officer for St. Louis Community College – Florissant Valley.
Members of the MLK Celebration Committee were impressed by Ritenour’s International Welcome Center’s commitment to instruction, exposure and opportunities for students and their parents whose first language is not English, according to STLCC. The committee also noted that Ritenour is one of STLCC’s strongest partners for dual credit and dual enrollment, and have more students participating in the Emerson STEM Academy early college program than any other school in north St. Louis County.
Additionally, the award committee was impressed with Ritenour’s Adult Education & Literacy program and future partnership opportunities with STLCC.
"We are truly humbled as a recipient of this award," said Kilbride. “But it also reminds us that partnerships within our community must continue to grow so we can offer additional opportunities for our students and families. Our partnership with St. Louis Community College is a shining example of a partnership that has opened new doors and a stronger future for our students."
