RHS Activities Director Named Administrator of the Year by MSHSAA Eastern District Speech & Debate Association
Ritenour High School Activities Director Jerry Nolen was named the 2019 Administrator of the Year by the MSHSAA Eastern District Speech & Debate Association. He was surprised with the award March 9 at the Eastern Missouri National Speech & Debate Association district tournament.
Christina Andrade Melly, RHS sponsor of the Speech and Debate Club, said Nolen has been an enthusiastic administrator who has dedicated his career to supporting students and their endeavors in extra-curricular activities.
"Mr. Nolen has been our champion, defender, and biggest fan,” said Andrade Melly. “Students and coaches have always known they can go to their 'team grandpa' with any questions, requests, or needs, and he will be there: from stepping in as a judge to traveling with us to state competitions, Mr. Nolen has been an incredible support to our entire team."
This year’s RHS Speech & Debate members are Louise Gutierrez Chavez, Mia Clay, Darian Dickerson and Josh Scruggs. Gutierrez Chavez placed sixth in Dramatic Interpretation at the district tournament in early March.
Nolen also earned accolades from the Missouri Association of Student Councils as the Gateway District Administrator of the Year in 2017.
