We sincerely regret to inform our 2020 graduates and their families that we must cancel commencement ceremonies this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We did everything possible to organize in-person events to honor our seniors. The ceremony was scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 1 at 6 p.m.
Today, we received the following message from Spring Schmidt, Acting Director for the St. Louis County Department of Public Health: Due to the dramatic rise in COVID-19 cases among county residents between 10 and 30 years of age, the Saint Louis County Department of Public Health (DPH) discourages social gatherings of any kind or size such as graduation events, proms and parties.
The DPH is not accepting plans for review for either indoor or outdoor events of any size. DPH is modifying its guidelines for all events at this time based on the levels of community transmission and no longer recommends these activities.
The class of 2020 has experienced a cascade of disappointments caused by the pandemic. We are heartbroken that we are not able to celebrate our 340 graduates in-person.
We are sorry that our seniors will not be able to formally gather to celebrate this important milestone. We are so proud of what our students have accomplished, and we join you in wishing them a future filled with great success.
More details about how the class of 2020 will receive their diplomas will be shared at a later date. We wish you all the best.
