Start of School Year Delayed Until Aug. 31 for Ritenour Students

Dear Ritenour Families,

The Ritenour Board of Education held an emergency meeting on Aug. 15 and voted to amend the school calendar to delay the first day of school until Monday, Aug. 31.  Students were originally scheduled to start the school year on Aug. 24.

Our staff has been working diligently to prepare for the first day of school and virtual learning.  Unfortunately, our devices are not scheduled to arrive in our district until late next week due to high demand and continued shipping delays. This is not a situation that is unique to Ritenour; educational institutions nationwide have been ordering exponentially more devices than usual for virtual learning this school year. We are fully committed to providing every Ritenour student with a quality device and, if needed, internet access.

We will use the week of Aug. 24-28 for additional staff training on virtual instruction. In addition, we will also distribute the devices to families and share information during the week.  More information about the schedule for the device roll out will be shared with families early next week.

The distribution of meals for students will also begin on Aug. 31. Meals will continue to be delivered to students by bus.  More details and a schedule for meal distribution will be shared with families soon, as well.

We thank you for your support and patience as we make pivots to ensure our students get off to the best start possible for this new school year.
