Ritenour Coordinator for Professional Learning Receives Honor from St. Louis School Librarians
Ritenour School District Coordinator of Professional Learning Evelyn Gilliam received the School Library Advocate of the Year Award from the Greater St. Louis School Librarians, an affiliate of the Missouri Association of School Librarians.
Gilliam was nominated by Ritenour High School Librarian Christina Northrup-Thompson.
“Evelyn is well deserving of this honor. As librarians in Ritenour, we would not be able to provide students with the level of service that we do without her support and assistance,” Northrup-Thompson said. “She is always there when we need her. Evelyn often reaches out to offer professional development opportunities, help us obtain the proper certification and provides many other ways to help us improve at our jobs.”
Gilliam was presented with the award in a socially distanced fashion on Oct. 23 at the Ritenour Administrative Center. In addition to Northrup-Thompson, presenting the award were Carolyn Allen, a librarian in the Hazelwood School District and President of the Greater St. Louis School Librarians and Kelly Oliva, a school librarian in the Wentzville School District and past-president of the organization.
Gilliam told the presenters the award has special meaning because her mother was a library assistant for nearly 20 years.
The Missouri Association of School Librarians is the premier professional organization for library media specialists who work in Missouri schools.
