Thanks to a generous donation by Books for STL Kids, approximately 1,500 new books made it into the hands of Ritenour students this spring and summer. Students from each of Ritenour’s six elementary schools got to pick new books to enjoy during the summer. Some of the books also went to students from both middle schools and Ritenour High School.
“We are so grateful for the generosity of Books for STL Kids to help our students continue reading during the summer,” said Julie Hahn, assistant superintendent for data, intervention and student support. “Giving students new books they can call their own makes a huge difference. Our hope is that it inspires our younger readers to read aloud with their older family members, and that our older readers can dive into some good books during their downtime in the summer.”
In addition to providing free books to Ritenour students in the spring/summer 2021, Books for STL Kids donated more than 500 books to be delivered with meals to students when Ritenour schools were closed due to the pandemic in the spring 2019.
