AMI Letter for Elementary Schools

December 2021

Dear Families of Students in Ritenour Elementary Schools,

As our superintendent has already shared, in the event that winter weather or other circumstances prevent in-person learning, the district plans to use AMI (Alternate Methods of Instruction) Days so students can continue learning at home. AMI days do not need to be made up at the end of the year.

The district will do its best to give families and staff advance notice of school closures due to inclement weather. Please be sure your child’s school office has your most up-to-date contact information since messages will be sent through our rapid notification system as a text, call and email.  Also, we are working to acquire more WiFi hotspots for families who do not have WiFi access at their home.  Please let your child’s school know if you need a hotspot, and then they will follow up with you.

If advance notice is given for an AMI Day, staff will ensure that students have the technology and/or materials they need to continue learning at home.

As we head into winter break, we are preparing students and staff for the potential of an AMI day upon our return on Jan. 5. As such, All students will bring home a device before winter break begins in case we need to use an AMI Day upon our return on Jan. 5. Please keep the device and cord in a safe place in your home, away from a heat source. Students should return the Chromebooks and cords back to school when school resumes after winter break.

If we need to use an AMI Day, our plan is:

  • Grades K-1 will bring home a paper packet prior to winter break to complete at home on an AMI Day, and then turn it into their classroom teachers on the next in-person learning day. They also will use their device to connect with their classroom teachers and peers for live, real-time instruction from 9-11 a.m. and 1-3:15 p.m.

The work in the paper packets corresponds to the AMI day (For example, students should only complete pages on the first AMI day that say “first AMI Day.”) Please do not have students complete the entire packet all at once since it includes five days of work for a total of five AMI days.

  • Grades 2-5 will meet with their class via Zoom on their Chromebooks for live, real-time learning with their classroom teachers and also complete some work independently from 9-11 a.m. and 1-3:15 p.m.

  • Ritenour School District will adhere to the following AMI schedule for all students. Students will receive live instruction with their teacher during the above mentioned times (schedule may include lunch).

Please note you will need your child’s student ID number to complete this process, which is available in the Parent Portal or by calling your child’s school. Families will be responsible for any damage or loss of Chromebooks and power cords.

Thank you for your continued partnership in educating all students in Ritenour School District.
